ReTweets

A retweet (abbreviated RT) is a tweet previously published by another person. It may also be used as a verb, as in, "pls RT" (i.e., please retweet). There are two main functions of a RT, to "forward" a tweet to another user, or more commonly, to increase advertising of an idea or event.

Syntax

By no means are these examples formal or official guidelines; they merely serve as examples for you to use. Some users write Retweet, while others use RT. Remember the 140 character limit in retweeting long tweets and use ellipses (i.e., ...) if needed (often, though, folks wanting a RT will be wary of this and shorten their tweets).

  •  RT @source (original tweet)
  • RT @source (original tweet) @tweet-recipient (your comments)

Use caution when using the second syntax, as it can often eat up valuable characters. Remember that  unauthorised retweeting, or not adding the RT @source, may get you suspended, so it's important to cite the original twitterer.
